Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers Headlines Volunteers of America's Legends Tournament

Autographed baseballs from Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers are just one of the balls every player has an eye on at The Legends Golf Tournament to benefit Volunteers of America, in Denver, Colorado, on August 8. With the Colorado Rockies Charity Fund signing-on as event partner, this is a golf tournament with a baseball theme.

Festivities kick-off with a pre-tournament dinner on Wednesday, August 7, at The Denver ChopHouse & Brewery where Mr. Fingers meets golfers, signs autographs and talks about his 17-year career, earning election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame -- only the second relief pitcher to do so -- and winning him the honor of having his number retired by two teams (Oakland Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers). The dinner event is sponsored by CoBiz Insurance, a longtime underwriter of this annual party for tournament players and their guests.

Then, on Thursday morning, August 8, the spotlight swings to the private Sanctuary Golf Course, created by RE/MAX co-founders Dave and Gail Liniger, where access is reserved for charity tournament participants. A full day begins at 9:30 a.m. with practice time, lunch, an 18-hole best ball tournament and dinner, and wraps up with awards at 7:00 p.m. Rollie Fingers is on hand to autograph baseballs, mingle with players and compete in the tournament.

Mr. Fingers joins a list of baseball celebrities who have supported Volunteers of America's Legends Golf Tournament over the past decade, including Brooks Robinson, Bob Feller, Gaylord Perry, Andres Galarraga, Goose Gossage, Fergie Jenkins, Harmon Killebrew, Steve Carlton and Dante Bichette. Traditionally, each year, the featured baseball player’s autographed jersey sets off the most enthusiastic live auction bidding.

Entry fees begin at $5,000 per foursome and sponsorship and co-sponsorship opportunities are available. Funds raised benefit Volunteers of America Colorado Chapter’s family strengthening services for families moving out of homelessness and domestic violence. Tournament co-chairs are Lee Earnhart of Chambers Wine and Liquor, John Milek of CoBiz Insurance and Greg Stiff of The J M Smucker Company.
