St. Jude Golf Tournament Returns to Shula’s Golf Club

Shula’s Hotel & Golf Club will proudly host the Corey for St. Jude Golf Tournament for its 11th consecutive year this September. The tournament, which has risen over $300,000 since its humble beginnings, will take place this year on Monday September 30th, shortly after the course has reopened from major renovations this summer.

Corey Sticco is the son of the golf course’s superintendent Tim Sticco, which gives this tournament special meaning for all of the employees at Shula’s. Corey has been receiving treatment from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for the last ten years.

Shula’s Golf Club is currently looking for a number of tournament sponsors to help raise money for this noble cause. Through the sponsorship, companies are able to put marketing dollars into a noble cause and support the lifesaving work of St. Jude. Sponsorships vary in size and include a number of benefits for each individual sponsor. “This event has a special meaning to all of us here at Shula’s…I am asking for your support to help us raise money for this wonderful cause. Thank you in advance for your help,” said Kenny Fill, Director of Golf at Shula’s Golf Club. Kenny takes great pride in organizing this event each year.

In 1962 when St. Jude first opened, only 4 percent of children suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukemia lived to see adulthood. Today, thanks to the research performed at St. Jude, this number has reached an astounding 94 percent!

On behalf of Shula’s Golf Club and St. Jude Children’s Hospital, we ask you to join us in celebrating life and the hope that one day 100 percent of the children diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia enjoy long healthy lives. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, or would like more information, contact Kenny Fill, Director of Golf at 305.820.8170 or by email at Kenny.fill@donshulahotel.com. We also invite you to visit the Corey for St. Jude website to see a list of sponsors from last year’s event.

Shula’s Hotel and Golf Club and Hotel Indigo Miami Lakes are located in Miami Lakes and are owned and operated by The Graham Companies. On site restaurants and amenities include The Original Shula’s  Steak House, Shula’s Steak 2, Vie De France Bakery, The Spa at Shula’s, Shula’s Athletic Club and Shula’s Golf Club.  305.821.1150.

Goodwill Third Annual Golf Tournament

Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida’s third annual golf fundraiser will be held Sunday, May 19 at Coral Oaks Golf Course in Cape Coral. Last year’s tournament successfully raised $15,000 in gross proceeds to benefit the agency’s programs and services and Goodwill is hoping to raise even more at this year’s event.

“This is such a fun way to give back to the community,” says Goodwill’s Community Relations Coordinator, Madison Mitchell. “Not only do participants get to play on a beautiful course but, the proceeds raised go right back into Southwest Florida through Goodwill’s programs and services.”

The Goodwill Golf Classic will feature a raffle, and multiple contests such as Closest to the Pin, 50/50 raffle, and a longest drive competition. If the Hole in One challenge has a winner, he/she will receive a Pebble Beach golf getaway vacation for 2, including roundtrip airfare, valued at $7,500.

The cost to play is just $60 for a single player, $240 for a 4-person team and $100 to sponsor a hole.

“It’s because of events like this one, and because of our donors and shoppers that we were able to assist over 30,000 people with disabilities and disadvantages in Southwest Florida last year,” explains Mitchell. “We wouldn’t be able to do that without the support of the community.”

To RSVP or for more information on the Golf Classic, call Madison Mitchell at (239)995-2106 ext. 2213 or email madisonmitchell@goodwillswfl.org.

Fred Parham, Ted Myers & Anthony Myers from Myers & Parham walked away with a first place score of 54, while SunTrust finished in second place with 56, and The Thompson Agency finished at third with a score of 57.

Despite coming in last place, Gulfcoast Consulting Group walked away with a Bowland bowling party gift certificate to try their hand at another sport.

“We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed the Goodwill Golf Classic,” says Teely Byrd, of Gulfcoast Consulting Group, Inc. “Everyone involved was great and the event was extremely organized. We can surely say that we will be back next year to protect our title of the team with the highest score!”

Contests, raffles, and games were all featured during the tournament including a hole-in-one contest that offered a golfing excursion to Pebble Beach valued at $7,500 to the winner. While no one landed an ace on the grand prize hole, Bob Bravard, a teacher at Caloosa Elementary, was lucky enough to get his first career hole-in-one during the tournament on an auxiliary hole, winning a $500 Visa gift card.

“I’ve been playing for 46 years,” says Bravard. “This is my first hole-in-one. It’s great!”

Another contest was the Fuzzy Dice Game, which gave players a chance to roll a die in order move to a closer tee-off point. This year, the Fuzzy Dice Game was run by Florida Sled Hockey Association coach Ron Robichaud and some of the team’s players. The team, which is comprised of athletes with physical disabilities and is sponsored by Goodwill, was able to raise over $430 during the tournament.

Sports Trading Club golf savant successfully predicts winner of PGA golf tournament

Harris English won golf’s FedEx St. Jude Classic by two shots for his first title on the U.S. PGA Tour and in so doing firmly elevated the Sport Trading Club savant to the highest echelons of great golf gurus.

On the eve of the tournament the Sports Trading Club revealed that she had chosen Harris English, an American in only his second season on the US PGA Tour, at 66-1 to win the St Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee.

English, 23, shot a 1-under-par 69 during the final round at TPC, to finish with a four-round total of 12 under 268. English received $1.01 million for the victory.

There has been worldwide interest in the Sports Trading Club (www.sportstradingclub.com) golf savant since last month when she selected Billy Horschel to record his first PGA Tour victory in the Zurich Classic despite him being a 36-1 outsider.

Her two extraordinary successes only a few weeks apart has stunned the sports betting world who fear the consequences of her accuracy.

Her selection last month of Billy Horschel and this week of Harris English reinforces the belief that the Sports Trading Club now has an incredible inside advantage with trading on golf, a sport which sees multi-million dollars sums wagered weekly.

The Sports Trading Club created The Insight Project, a world first with the study of savants and sports trading.

It is led by their scientific director Dr. Allan Snyder, FRS who, for some 20 years, has conducted ground breaking research on savants at both the Australian National University and the University of Sydney.

“We have embraced the extraordinary skills of savants to give ourselves a unique advantage,” said Dr Snyder.

“Certain savants unmask patterns that others can't see and are bewilderingly quick at performing calculations and recalling enormous amounts of data, “ he said.

Dr. Snyder, himself a living genius and brilliant learned scholar, believes that certain savants have a distinct  advantage in sports trading, which gives the Sports Trading Club a diagnostic edge that no one else can achieve.

Dr Snyder would say little about the identity of the Savant except that she lives in the USA and four years ago she had never even watched a game of golf.

A small subset of autistics, known as savants, can perform super specialised mental feats.

Savant syndrome is a condition in which a person demonstrates profound and prodigious capacities and abilities far in excess of what would be considered normal.

Perhaps the most famous savant was Dustin Hoffman's character in ''Rain Man,'' who could count hundreds of matchsticks at a glance.

But the truth has often been even stranger: one celebrated savant in turn-of-the-century Vienna could calculate the day of the week for every date since the birth of Christ.

Other savants can speak dozens of languages without formally studying any of them or can reproduce music at the piano after only a single hearing.”

The Sports Trading Club,  which  operates as a private investors group in England, recently allowed the general public to become associate members  in Australia.

It reported a 305% profit for the first quarter of 2013 sending a clear message to investors that trading on sports and prediction markets is an emerging industry to rival traditional financial markets.

In December last year it announced a multi-million pound partnership in Australia and followed  Britain’s largest bookmaker, William Hill, into the booming Aussie sports market.

“Our move to Australia has proven to be astute. A person who invested $50,000 on January 1 of this year has seen that grow to $312,532 in  five months,” Mr Robin said.

“It is high reward for low risk, as at no time did we invest more than one per cent of the fund into any one trade,” he said.

STC recently expanded into South Africa and South Korea is now looking toward expanding throughout Europe and Asia.

STC is currently in negotiations with a joint venture partner for the Macau market.

Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers Headlines Volunteers of America's Legends Tournament

Autographed baseballs from Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers are just one of the balls every player has an eye on at The Legends Golf Tournament to benefit Volunteers of America, in Denver, Colorado, on August 8. With the Colorado Rockies Charity Fund signing-on as event partner, this is a golf tournament with a baseball theme.

Festivities kick-off with a pre-tournament dinner on Wednesday, August 7, at The Denver ChopHouse & Brewery where Mr. Fingers meets golfers, signs autographs and talks about his 17-year career, earning election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame -- only the second relief pitcher to do so -- and winning him the honor of having his number retired by two teams (Oakland Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers). The dinner event is sponsored by CoBiz Insurance, a longtime underwriter of this annual party for tournament players and their guests.

Then, on Thursday morning, August 8, the spotlight swings to the private Sanctuary Golf Course, created by RE/MAX co-founders Dave and Gail Liniger, where access is reserved for charity tournament participants. A full day begins at 9:30 a.m. with practice time, lunch, an 18-hole best ball tournament and dinner, and wraps up with awards at 7:00 p.m. Rollie Fingers is on hand to autograph baseballs, mingle with players and compete in the tournament.

Mr. Fingers joins a list of baseball celebrities who have supported Volunteers of America's Legends Golf Tournament over the past decade, including Brooks Robinson, Bob Feller, Gaylord Perry, Andres Galarraga, Goose Gossage, Fergie Jenkins, Harmon Killebrew, Steve Carlton and Dante Bichette. Traditionally, each year, the featured baseball player’s autographed jersey sets off the most enthusiastic live auction bidding.

Entry fees begin at $5,000 per foursome and sponsorship and co-sponsorship opportunities are available.
